The Imaginary Line

The Imaginary Line

The podcast to break the borders

Bethan, Justine and Madeleine

The Greek island of Lesbos is located off the coast of Turkey and is therefore one of the main points of entry for people fleeing to Europe. We are three young European women, volunteers in Lesbos since October and we were all shocked by the discrepancy between the myths and stories that revolve around the refugee issue and the reality on the ground. This podcast aim to finally give a voice to those who are talked about all the time without ever being listened to. The Imaginary Line is a podcast that talks about borders and the different experiences they generate, the lives they shape, the inequalities they create. But it also talks about what creates joy in a difficult daily life, what gives hope when a whole system seems to want to methodically destroy unwanted lives. In short, welcome to The Imaginary Line! Khudabakhsh_part 2

Hello everyone ! We are back today with the second part of the interview with Khudabakhsh.
At the end of the last episode with khudabakhsh he was speaking about his experience being sent to prison after trying to flee Greece by hiding in a truck.
Today he talks about his last few months in prison and his return to Lesbos, his perception of borders and his vision for the future. As a little heads up, although this episode is lighter and more hopeful than the last, it does have some difficult stories so please be aware.
Remember, at the end of the last episode, Khudabakhsh was in prison. We now return to that point as he tries to keep himself busy to pass the time.

Khudabakhsh_part 1

Khudabakhsh comes from Afghanistan and arrived on Lesvos in 2019. I met him almost three months ago during a dinner with friends and we quickly became very close. Khudabakhsh is for me the personification of British phlegm, he always looks at what is going on around him with a calm attitude and a little amused smile and always expresses himself with very distinguished manners.
With him we talked about his history, his relationship with the borders and his dreams. Because he has a very long and intense story, we talked a lot together. What you gonna hear today is only the first part of his interview. But I won't tell you anymore, it's time to let him speak! Enjoy listening!

NB. : This episode deals with difficult issues, sometimes complicated to listen to for people with strong sensitivities. I therefore advise you to make sure that you are in good conditions before starting to listen to it.**
